For my summer internship, I worked full-time in the London office supporting editorial teams across digital, print, and social media. I then worked part-time for the commerce editorial team during my final year at university. I was also commissioned for various travel features, investigating destinations in Panama, Morocco, and Mykonos.

It’s not every day that you have tacos for breakfast, but at Decimo, the combination somehow feels natural. The restaurant has been a date-night dinner spot since 2019, and executive chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesia’s latest venture brings the Mexican and Spanish flavours of his childhood to brunch hours as well. Found on the 10th floor of The Standard King’s Cross, the first thing that strikes us is the view. Sweeping glass windows bring you head to head with the terracotta facades and gothic spires of St Pancras Station’s ornate architecture, and the pretty sights continue as we’re seated at a glossy red-tiled table in the corner. Exotic plant beds, wafting incense, and groovy Latin American rhythms plunge us into a vibrant, multi-sensory atmosphere.

When four university students started selling slices at house parties in 2018, it’s unlikely that they pictured themselves as future restaurateurs. We visit Bad Boy Pizzeria during its opening weekend in August and are greeted by a huge (and hungry) queue spilling out the front door. Grab-and-go slices and takeaway boxes fill the shopfront, but tucked discreetly behind the red-tiled counter, there are 14 snug booths and tables, too. The atmosphere is chilled, intimate, and free of all pretences. Think craft beer collaborations with local breweries, waiting staff clad in Bad Boy football shirts, and framed home photographs documenting their pizza-making journey. Even as it opens its first restaurant, Bad Boy Pizza Society has not lost sight of its cheery, community-driven roots.

Coffee by day, wine and dine by night. That is the offering from co-founders Alex Young and George de Vos in an old restored pub building found on a quiet corner of Islington. Goodbye Horses, the duo's restaurant and wine bar, is connected to Day Trip, their coffee shop, through a shared bar area, with the team also planning to launch an ice cream parlour across the road to round up their trio of summer openings. Highlights include the oxtail ragout rice, a sticky, melt-in-the-mouth dish with a light crunch, and the reimagined egg mayonnaise, serving boiled eggs doused in creamy sauce topped with a generous sprinkle of lemon-flavoured chips. For the perfect wine pairing, drinks director Nathalie Nelles guides you through her curated list, which celebrates only the most organic wines. We love the eclectic interiors, too, combining rustic oak tables and hand-painted curtains with shelves of vinyl albums to play on the vintage record player. Goodbye Horses itself is a nod to the cult classic song of the same name, made famous through its appearance in psychological horror The Silence of the Lambs, although the restaurant experience is more like something out of a romance. Dining at Goodbye Horses feels like a warm and comforting hug.
Included in 'The best sunsets in the world, according to the travel editors'
For me, it’s not only the sky which makes a sunset truly memorable, but the surroundings too. Dubrovnik’s imposing stone fortresses and Mediterranean shores are already a pretty sight by day, but when bathing in the hazy glow of reds and oranges and pinks, the medieval city becomes truly enchanting. I visited Dubrovnik for five nights, but never once tired of peering at these swirling hues, whether wandering along the Old Town’s vast walls, or plunging into cool waters beneath secret hole-in-the-wall bars. But no sunset spot in Dubrovnik rivals the views atop Mount Srd, so take the gentle cable car up and dine at the aptly named Restaurant Panorama for the ultimate vista.
